Sognen E. Calcium-binding substances and intestinal absorption. A survey of literature and own investigations. Acta Pharmacol. Toxicol. 1964; Suppl 1: 31 pp. (CA62:6899d) [A survey is given of the literature dealing with the effects of Na oxalate, Na phytate, NaF, and tetracemin on the intestinal absorption of glucose, H2O, and drugs. Glucose and H2O transport was reduced by Ca-binding substances; however, sulfanilamide passes the intestinal mucosa independent of the transport of H2O. Reduced gastrointestinal absorption of drugs in the presence of Ca-binding substances was found to be due to a retarded rate of gastric emptying.]
