Karunajeewa H. Effect of some feed additives on the performance of broiler chicks fed diets containing high levels of meat and bone meal. Aust. J Exp. Agric. Anim. Husb. 1976; 16(82):685-690. (CA) [Two expts., each of 5 weeks duration, were conducted to det. the effects of vitamin D3 , EDTA, K oxalate, MgO, and K2SO4 on the performance of broiler chicks given diets contg. a high level of meat and bone meal. The addn. of 0.095 or 0.063% EDTA plus 0.125% MgO or 0.063% K oxalate improved efficiency of feed conversion, and 0.188% K2SO4 improved both livewt. gain and efficiency of feed conversion, of chicks fed diets with a high level of meat and bone meal. MgO, either independently or in combination with K oxalate, had no effect on chick performance. Nonsupplementation of meat and bone meal based diets with vitamin D3 caused a depression in growth, feed intake, efficiency of feed conversion, tibia wt. and tibia ash content. These adverse effects were aggravated by the addn. of 0.25% EDTA to such a diet.]
