Domingo JL, Llobet JM, Corbella J. The effects of EDTA in acute cobalt intoxication in rats. Toxicol. Eur. Res. 1983; 5(6):251-255. (CA) [EDTA in rats was an effective oral antidote to the lethal action of Co when it was given immediately after the intoxication, i.e., the no. of treated animals surviving for 1 wk was 100%. When EDTA was given i.p. as an antidote immediately after the oral intoxication by Co, efficiency was lowered by 60% and when 20-30 min had elapsed between 1 dose and the other, efficiency was lowered by 20%. When Co-EDTA complex was given orally or i.p., there were no deaths, not even at LD100 values of the Co. No noteworthy changes were brought about in hematol. parameters in animals receiving the Co-EDTA complex after a week's treatment.]
