Ca EDTA and Iron Overload
Two references concerning the effect of EDTA on iron absorption:
Davis PS, Deller DJ. Effect of orally administered chelating agents EDTA, DTPA and fructose on radioiron absorption in man. Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry 75 (1999):159-165.
Cook JD, Monsen, ER. Food iron absorption in man: the effect of EDTA on absorption of dietary non-heme iron. Am J Clin Nutr 29. June 1976: 614-620.
I have a patient with hemochromatosis who is currently taking oral chelation (Essential Daily Defense) as part of an overall program. I'll let you know how he does.
Dear Doctors:
I might add that
someday I need to do a more intensive review about this disease for which over
30 million Americans carry the single allele, leaving that many at RISK of IRON
OVERLOAD merely from consuming a daily multivitamin containing iron. If we all
review www.ironoverload.com we will understand how this extra iron can even be
the straw that breaks the back of the overloaded toxic body. It permits Diabetes
to become manifest earlier and permits sublethal infections to become lethal.
This is why the IRON CHELATION effect from RUTOSID (as found in Wobenzym with
the Bromelain so that it really gets into the tissues where it needed to work
efficiently) is so important. Please understand this is why Olympic athletes around
the world use Wobenzym; it largely prevents the black and blue after injuries
(or surgery) that makes small injuries take longer to heal.
We will come back and visit this subject again and thanks for looking up some references; however, if you type in oral EDTA and IRON, the abstracts on my website may help shed more light on this amazing development. It appears that EDTA can both help deliver iron to iron-depleted children according to the WHO and also clearly helps to lower iron stores when they are elevated. In any event, since iron and copper will both bind with EDTA, there will be less free radical mediated damage in those consuming EDTA orally on a life long basis. It helps to also lower iron intake in your patient and, although the literature is confusing at first, I also do use high doses of Beyond C (4 Gm=1 tsp, bid) and I recommend my new combination of soluble and insoluble fiber (Beyond Fiber) for the Rice Bran Extract and the Inulin from Jerusalem Artichoke, 1 heaping tsp bid minimum up to 1 tablespoon bid.
Sincerely,
Garry F. Gordon, MD,DO,MD(H)
